Meet the Team
Allie Gardner
Allie is our newest Educational Specialist, starting in June 2016. She has extensive experience in assisting students to be successful as well as working with instructors to improve teaching and learning. She leads CTL’s educational accommodations process. Her areas of expertise include instructional coaching, accommodations and Special Education, educational technology, and behavioral interventions. Before coming to DMU, she worked as an educational consultant, writer and teacher, having taught preschool through college for the past 12 years. She has served as an educational leader and administrator for multiple public school districts as well.

Kerry Gregoryk
Kerry is the Director for the DMU Center for Teaching and Learning. Her twenty-plus years of experience in higher education, as a faculty member, division chair, and distance learning and faculty development director, provides the broad perspective needed to manage the department and direct student academic and faculty development services for the campus.

Brian Pinney
Brian is an Educational Specialist providing individual consultations for student academic success as well as workshops and other student and faculty development activities. He has worked with faculty to develop SKIPPs and other instructional activities for DMU, plus he updated the educational accommodations process to meet national standards. He teaches the Practical Foundations of Medical Education (PFME) for the DPT Program and Fundamentals of Learning course in the DPT and DO and programs.

Vanessa Preast
Vanessa is the Digital Accessibility and Instructional Specialist on DMU’s campus. She is an experienced instructional designer, trainer and researcher with a veterinary background who is dedicated to using her skills in evaluation, design, and development to solve instructional and accessibility issues within DMU.

Michelle Rogers-Johnson
Prior to coming to DMU in February 2016 as an Educational Specialist, Michelle worked as an assessment coordinator for Drake University. She also taught undergraduate courses in educational psychology at UI and worked as an assessment literacy consultant for Amplify Education. Her research interests include classroom assessment and effective assignment design. In April 2017, Michelle's role at DMU transitioned to that of an Assessment Specialist.

Fran Smith-Fatten
Fran is the Administrative Assistant for the CTL and is instrumental in maintaining the departmental operations in addition to leading the peer tutoring program. She started in the CTL before it was moved to its current location and has helped it to grow from two employees to where it is now. Before coming to DMU, Fran worked for five years at Ashford University as an Academic Advisor and in the Registrar's Department.
