Cooperating on the Court and in the ClassroomBy: Allie Gardner Educational Specialist Teams need to have cooperation and a shared mental model to succeed. This means they need an opportunity to work together, communicate and practice as a team. According to Janelle Cox, (2017) “Research shows that students learn more effectively when working together rather than apart, and it is also known to improve self-confidence in students.” Teams who play with confidence and work together can achieve great things. Thus, in our classrooms providing students time to collaborate, share ideas, and wallow with inquiry-based tasks will teach them more than just content. So, for the month of March try to serve as a coach and let your students play and learn together. Provide a few case studies or ask a question, and give them 10-15 minutes to try to solve the puzzle or answer the question as a team. Allowing them to engage in content from a cooperative perspective will help them win in the future.
